Wiel’ll ....take your pick, there’s a few hold me hug me, i knocked Bim bam , ...BE BOP A LULA...!, it must be a Gene Vincent sound,
We’ve had a few in the past , some of the greats, like Graham Fenton’s matchbox, Ervin Travis and recently Darrel Higham ,The band is out to play with their great new album of Gene Vincent greats, this fantastic four members are as follows
Little Dave...Dave Harp, Lead Vocals (occasional guitar)
Jono ... guitar
Connie Kym Everard…Bass and the backin vocals
Steve Napper… Drums
Four-piece band from Dorset UK, fantastic place, a renowned area for rockin the past.
have now given us this brill Gene Vincent rockin band , FULL of dynamics and performances, you are in for a treat.... (just imagine so far, if we had Darrel, Graham and Dave for a start as a Gene backing, it be like having the original) this band working so well together give the complete impact of all levels of the recording and bringing it all together, being recorded at Helios studios, and produced by the band BE BOP A LULA themselves. and their real retro eye catching sleeve design/artwork by their smooth rockin drummer Steve Napper what a band, let’s get a blue jean boppin...to the tracks...
1 Race with the devil,
a true up-tempo fast paced bopper , and impressive sound on the original, their very slight touch ,little added echo on the iconic opening riff, that classic stop in your track sound... beautifully created, great drum pace and bass line and smashing guitar string play like the original ,gene and gallop back playing ?...
2 ,Be Bop a Lula
the band name now bought to life even more ...this perfect stroller, like the original, little more dynamics on the vocals record in true placement of brilliance and distinctive backing yells, have you strolling like it’s still in the chart...
3, crazy legs
Another iconic superb bopper, and no different to the original really will have you up in no time, brilliant, paced beat with fulfilling little fills, rolls and cymbals, and fantastic twanging guitar full range and tremolos, with bouncing bass... !
4 Blue Jean Bop
so , this little beauty, and handled perfectly, the traditional slow-paced opener spoken, the
bang it to the brilliant bopper that’s known for , their personal slight echo touch blending the ensemble of instruments, working smooth kool n rockin' as always , tributed!
5, I knocked Bim Bam,
this again fantastic bopper , with full on paced drums with fills, and twanging string bending guitar and hard bass pulsing greatness, like having the record on...!!
6, Hold Me Hug Me Rock Me
were halfway already, boy this is going quick, what a fantastic sound. the vocal opening one liner into explosive traditional Gene rockabilly, quick paced on all band members play, fabulous guitar bass drum and vocal with all their full-bodied sound
7, Baby Blue
well, now kats here’s a treat , can they do it, o yes, they can, One of my personal faves, played more bluesy , a super start slow deep bass, deep guitar rousing raspy yet smooth riff and hard beating drumming with the iconic rockin blues guitar break...wow it will send you like the original...youll all be up slow dancing and strolling...
8, Pretty Little Pearly,
here’s one that’s not played a lot, and what a great sound they have made of this, slightly bluesy up-tempo, brilliant rocker , lot of dynamic and structure, clean clear sound and real rockin..!!
9, summertime,
oh yeah cats another classic song and hardly heard of, only a couple of bands to take this smooth chiller on, and another great job the swaying beat of the drum, with their breaks, the rhythmic guitar, with its fills and slides the bass. Harmonizing to the band and the full vocal range , from the subtle bass to the calming higher pitch, working perfectly a perfect chill out, don you kool shirt get you drink and enjoy...!!
10 , who’s Pushing Your Swing,
Another fantastic tune and yet again not taken on muchby most artist, and Be Bop a Lula can do it brilliant, full bodied on all aspects , perfect balanced, again like listening to the original, with their own touch..
11 wild cat,
oh, here goes , a traditional classic, let’s get a strolling all of you, to their superb take on the masterpiece and pay full homage, a brilliant bass and guitar underlaying bouncing echo... fantastic...!!
12, you are the one for me,
so, cats, we're at the end already, and to play us out from this masterpiece , a great rare slowwie, good for this time of year. broken chord strum and plucked piece all through, slow steady pace beat, harmonized bass line an echoing hauntingly fabulous full scale. Dynamic guitar playing guitar with epic solo break and tremendous harmonized with band solo vocal. structure and range, and unsung rarity made with an impression, go on grab your significant other ...or a lonely one and glide the night away...!!!
Summary
well, what can I say cats other that utter fabtastic work by the band on all levels, brilliant class of musician work and up most homage to the great one and only ...Mr Eugene Craddock, GENE VINCENT , the black leather rebel, no wonder these kats have been booked so many places little events weekenders the lot, and i should mention as another quote that they have been endorsed by none other than genes daughters Melody and Sherri, "this is a great tribute to my dad, thank you,, M.Craddock "a great performance dave'' Sherri Vincent , and ''gene would be proud'' Ronny Weiser
so yes koool kats, listening to this and owning it is a must for any Gene fan, highly recommended, a mix of all his tunes classic and rare, for real fans, every rockin dj and event will most probably have this on the line up for the night, and why not, iv played several tunes several times already and more in line to go...!!
