One of three new 45rpm offerings from the folks at Maverick records. First, we have the fairly prolific Unknown Artist with Don’t Bug Me Baby. Well, we’ve spent time wondering who it might be, & after not much research I can proudly confirm…I haven’t a clue who it is. This situation is a fairly common occurrence in RnR circles. Either a track is discovered on an acetate with no credit, or on a master-tape again with no label. Session logs can also be lost making identifying who the artist is virtually impossible. However, it’s the music that counts & it’s a great up-tempo Rockabilly bopper. I couldn’t properly access the sleeve notes, but from what I could read from 1957 & was cut at Western Recorders. Thankfully we do know who cut the flip side. Clyde Pitts gives us a moody mid-paced track called The Lonely Side Of Town. This I think was cut in 1961. It has a bit of an Elvis feel, with vocals not dissimilar to Charlie Rich. For me this side is the winner, though both sides should get the dancefloor rockin.
I think this 45rpm single will prove a winner in the clubs & will be in many a DJ’s box. If you’re a DJ wanting two dance floor winners, a record collector wanting more rarities, or just a lover of good music who happens to own a record player, get this disc. The physical 45 comes with notes telling us what is known about the tracks. Keep ‘em coming.
