Released: May 2025

Recorded at Zack Ingles recording studio in Hampton, New Brunswick

If Merle Haggard got into a bar fight with the Allman Brothers, you'd get the Baker Beaton Band. A toe-tapping mashup of Country, Blues and Funk brings local legends Brian Baker and Mike Beaton together to perform through a mix of genre standards, deep cuts, original songs, and fun covers.

Originally from Cape Breton, Mike Beaton comes from the Halifax music scene and was the driving force behind the band ‘The Downtown Getdown’, before branching out as a solo artist. Brian Baker, and his band The Memphis Knights, have been a mainstay of the rockabilly and blues scene for over 10 years and won the 2015 Music New Brunswick Rock Artist Of The Year. Together, they put on high energy show full of guitar aerobics and soaring harmonies. Performing as an acoustic duo and a full band.

Review

This is the first single released by Brian, Mike and the boys, in fact I think that it may be well be their first release full stop.  So what is it? It’s a great slice of Bluegrass tinged Americana. Hang on, can you say ‘Americana’ when the band is from Canada? Canadicana? No that don’t work. Anyway, it’s a tongue in cheek ode to unrequited love in the true acoustic country tradition. Mike sings the lead whilst Brian rips it up on the flatpicked acoustic guitar.  So readers, if you groove to the sounds of ‘Oh Brother Where art thou’ and ‘The Charlie Daniels band’ then this is one for you. I’m looking forward to the full album Baker Beaton boys!
