New Zealand’s top retro Rock n Roll/Rockabilly band Boom Boom Deluxe are back again with another self-penned number to whet your appetites.

The Band consist of:.

DD Deluxe, Vocals and harmonics

Hettie LaBombe, Double bass and vocals

Hannah Dactyl, Drums and vocals

Sammy Mantis Guitar, Sitar and vocals

Pete "Frenchy" France, Tenor & baritone sax, organ

Seven years ago, whilst watching the bands at a vintage event and thought “why is it all covers?? Someone should start up an originals rock n roll band in New Zealand, hence an album, an EP and four singles later here we are still producing 100% self-penned material. So, let’s review this latest single:

We Survived The Zombie Plague- Rockabilly meets Psychobilly with the haunting Hammer Horror sound mixed in with some spaghetti western echo’s, that’s the ingredients here focusing on the Covid era through the Kiwi perspective. Don’t let the intro fool you thinking you’re going to listen to a south sea island melody whilst the radio knobs tuning you’re not as the song rips open reminiscing the dark days of lockdown with the dos and don’ts we were told to perform. DD gives it the Vincent Price style vocals, whilst Sammy produces some neat high pitch licks on the guitar.

All in over five minutes of pulsating sounds cleverly arranged and produced with an energetic zap and a message we will never forget, go and seek it out on the airwaves it will blow your mind.

We Survived The Zombie Plague

Band Promo Bio:

"Zombie Plague" Officially Unleashed – A Retro-Psychedelic Rock’n’roll Anthem for Resilience

A long-standing live favourite among fans, Zombie Plague is finally making its official debut! This electrifying track fuses psychedelic Pop Art rock ‘n’ roll with a sharp-witted reflection on the chaos of the Kiwi C*VID era. More than just a song, Zombie Plague is a rallying cry - an anthem of resilience, rebellion, and the unbreakable human spirit. Its infectious energy and bold sonic landscape mark a defining moment for the band, solidifying their reputation for delivering high-octane, thought-provoking music. According to "The Sound" DJ Mark Smith "We are witnessing the birth of a new genre - Kiwibilly!"

The accompanying music video, once again directed and produced by bassist Hettie LaBombe, brings the song’s vision to life with a striking blend of influences. Drawing inspiration from Pop Art icon Roy Lichtenstein, the cult classic Day of the Dead, and the fiery spirit of Tex-Mex rock ‘n’ roll, the video delivers a visual feast that perfectly complements the track’s raw energy. Layered with echoes of Ennio Morricone’s spaghetti western soundscapes, Zombie Plague transports listeners into a world that is both cinematic and deeply personal. This long-awaited release is a must-hear for retro-rock fans and a testament to the power of music as both a refuge and a revolution.

Available on all the usual digital platforms. A blistering live version also scheduled to be released as part of the upcoming "Live in Japan: Sake, Sushi & Broken Teeth" album due out End June 2025.
