Welcome To The Devil's Room

Welcome To The Devil’s Room

Hellblazers

Released 2024  Gangstarockers Records

Reviewed date (June/24)

HellBlazers Welcome to the devil's room. The Hellblazers are from Finland and are made up of two thirds of a previous neobilly band called The Trailblazers.

This 10-track album is a solid debut album with some good songs and musicianship. I really like ‘Money Spine’ and

The album is well placed in the rock/metal/punk version of Psychobilly. It is not setting any new direction or indeed blazing any new trails but it’s a good album of this type and the band play very well indeed. They have a good sense of what makes people like in the genre and are delivering it well here.

I think that within the spectrum of psychobilly, Welcome To The Devil’s Room lands somewhere in the late 80’s and early 90’s but overall the sound is more modern an EP called ‘’Psychobilly Mindfuck’’, which was released in 2023.

Members of the Band

Hellblazers is a three-piece psychobilly group from Eastern Finland. The band was formed in 2018 but Olli (guitar, vocals) and Kalle (upright bass, vocals) share common history from a neo-rockabilly band, The Trailblazers. The Third member is drummer Mika.

Track by track Review

1 Bed Made Of Roses

2:20

A good opener from Hell blazers to kick off a solid album by the band from Finland.

A statement mood that sets the tone for the album.

2 Dropout Saloon

2:14

A more rocking feel to this song of salon death and destruction.

More rockabilly with rock guitars.

3. Money Spine

2:43

Money spine has a real down and dirty Motörhead feel at times. It is my favourite track on the album.

More psycho rock than billy but for me that’s just dandy! Great chorus and energy make this a real stomper.

4. Every Day Is Halloween

3:37

Everyday is halloween? Yes please! Well maybe we can squeeze in a few days of summer and even Christmas.

This track has clear echoes of Horror pops and green day but with more gnarley guitars. Good tune.

5.Instagram

2:38

Strong track to end the album with.  The Hell blazers set out the world today in colours that are dark .

Good trial pumping track all about the loves and losses on the well known social media platform.

6.Nothing Is Real

2:52

I really like this track its moves well and is arranged really well.

Strong riffing and bass slapping gives this a fell of Frenzy’s ‘Clockwork orange’ album.

7. Vagabond

2:37

Good catchy guitar lines and backing shapes this track into a solid psycho track.

8. I Don't Fit In

3:42

An anthem of anxiety and rebellion about social separation and angst. Good riffing guitar and chorus.

Heavily 1990s Punk influenced track with strength.

9. Deadbeat Holiday

2:15

Pack your bags as we are all off on vacation. The joys of international travel are somewhat alluding us here as we are on a deadbeat holiday.

Good little sing along track.

10. Lost In My Mind(Fuck)

3:18

Lost in my mind starts with a great rock guitar line, backed by punk power chords.

Love the chorus. Up there with Money spine in terms of quality.

Summary

HellBlazers Welcome to the devil's room is a solid and likeable debut. It has some very familiar influences as cited earlier in this review and there is nothing wrong with that at all.

This means good bunch of mid-tempo songs with melodic yet hard riffs, prominent slapping bass and a thumping rhythm section. The vocals are a rock/punk and raw gruff and whilst not specifically old school, it’s obvious that Hellblazers are heavily influenced by some core sources of psychobilly.

I recently reviewed another band from Finland called Deadmen and together these show that Finland has some good talent and vibrant scene.

Recommendation

I would recommend this album who likes their psycho hard and punk/metal influenced. The three songs to listen to initially are Money Spine,
