If you are going to release an album dedicated to one for the guitar greats then Chet Atkins is a pretty good choice and as a musician, he is a legend. This album covers Chet tracks played by Frank in the Chet style and he does his usual thorough job playing all the instruments and recording, mixing and producing the album to his usual high quality. Frank lives in Chile so for most of the readers of this review will only get to hear his music online or on cd which is a pity as I would really love to see him and his band play live.
Frank Jacket- Electric guitar, acoustic guitar, Double Bass, Snare Drum.
1. Beer Barrel Polka- You either love or hate a Polka if you’re a fan of finger picking style guitar then you probably love a polka this one great the electric guitar does all the hard work with all the other instruments keep the rhythm.
2. Besame Mucho - Originally a hit in Mexico and you can hear the Latin influence in this track Frank does a great job picking the guitar on this one.
3. Moonlight Serenade – First recorded in the 1930s and a Jazz standard covered by a lot of artists through the years. I really like this track Frank glides over the Frets with fine accompaniment from the rhythm section.
4. Nauges- Django Reinhart a guitar legend himself in 1940 I believe so to cover it as Frank has done in the Chet Atkins style is a brave move but I think Frank does a great job.
I really like this album as I have with the other releases from Frank Jacket it’s a salute to a guitar legend and you can hear the love for Chet in the way Frank finger picks the frets and has clearly put a lot of work into getting it right on the record.
If you're a fan of a finger picked guitar or Chet or Frank for that matter then you won’t be wasting your money buying this album.
